The hype around the Tata Curvv is real and the vehicle is currently undergoing final rounds of testing ahead of its launch. Tata Motors will launch the Curvv in early August and it will be available in ICE and EV versions. Here’s everything that we know about the vehicle so far.
Tata currently has 3 major platforms in their line-up. The ALFA platform underpins the Altroz and Punch while the Omega-Arc platform is used on the Harrier and Safari. The Nexon is based on the X1 platform and the Curvv will be based on a reworked version of the X1 platform. The platform was first seen on the Indica Vista 15 years back.
If we talk about the EV first, it will be positioned above the Nexon EV and below the upcoming Harrier EV. We expect the price to be between Rs. 20-25 Lakh, thus rivalling the MG ZS EV and BYD Atto 3 which saw a price cut recently. The Curvv EV will get a new battery pack compared to the Nexon and is likely to get a claimed range of more than 500 kms on a single charge.
As far as the ICE version goes, the vehicle will get two petrol engine options – the first one will be the 1.2-litre turbo engine which currently powers the Nexon. On the Nexon, it makes 120 PS but on the Curvv it could get a slightly higher state of tune. This engine is offered with a 7-speed DCA or 6-speed MT and the same will be offered with the Curvv. The second petrol engine will be a new 1.5-litre turbocharged unit making as much as 170-180 horses but it remains to be seen whether Tata will offer this engine right from launch or at a later date.
The Curvv will also get a diesel engine which will be a 1.5-litre unit, again shared with the Nexon. On the Nexon, it makes 115 PS of power but it could be tweaked a little for the Curvv. On the Nexon, this engine is offered with a 6-speed MT or 6-speed AMT.
The Tata Curvv is likely to get a 5-star BNCAP safety rating just like its siblings and the safety kit will include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, 3-point seatbelts, TCS, brake disc wiping, TPMS rollover mitigation and the likes.
The Tata Curvv ICE will be positioned higher than the Nexon, to rival the Grand Vitara, HyRyder, Taigun, Kushaq, Astor, Creta and Seltos. However, this will be the first Indian car to come with a coupé SUV design. While this is likely to reduce the rear headroom, the sporty design will attract a lot of people.
